The Golden Hands of Kashmir
Honoring the Golden Hands of Kashmir
At Tul Palav, we are honored to introduce “The Golden Hands of Kashmir,” a project dedicated to recognizing the artisans of Kashmir. This initiative aims to preserve and promote the region’s extraordinary craft traditions while supporting the artisans who bring them to life. These artisans have tirelessly worked to keep the crafts of Kashmir—and, in turn, its rich heritage—alive. Often overlooked and rarely celebrated, they deserve recognition and acknowledgment for their invaluable contributions both locally and globally through their craft. This project is our heartfelt effort to honor their dedication and accomplishments.

Preserving Kashmir’s Legacy: Abdul Rashid Baba, Master of Pashmina Since 1985.
In our interview he emphasized reviving the cherished tradition of gifting handwoven pashmina shawls and embroidered pieces, a practice that once formed an integral part of Kashmiri life. Historically, pashmina was a treasured part of a bride’s trousseau and played a vital role in traditional marriages.
This custom not only reflected the beauty of the craft but also supported the livelihoods of artisans, particularly women who were an essential part of pashmina weaving.
Meet Abdul Rashid Baba (Nane Babe)
It is with great pride that we feature Abdul Rashid Baba, affectionately known as Nane Babe, as the first artisan highlighted under the project. A distinguished yet humble craftsman, Nane Babe has been handweaving exquisite pashmina shawls and wraps since 1985. With nearly four decades of dedication, he exemplifies the artistry and resilience of Kashmiri weaving traditions.
In our interview with Nane Babe, he shared a heartfelt message about the importance of promoting and preserving local culture.
